History

Garwood, New Jersey, is a small borough located in Union County, with a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Originally part of the larger community of Cranford, it became its own entity in 1903. Named after the Garwood family, who were prominent in the area, the borough developed as a residential community, benefiting from the arrival of the Central Railroad of New Jersey in the 1880s. The population grew steadily, with many commuters drawn to nearby cities.
